Being international

This year’s Larpweekend, some of the games will be presented and played in English. There will be games played only in Czech as well, but don´t worry because there is more games in English that you´ll be able to play.

What can I expect?

Larp is a game in which you play the main part. It’s like theatre performance but with much more freedom. You don’t have to memorize a script, but you steer the story yourself. You don’t act for an audience, but for yourself and other players. The themes and genres are similar as in the movies.

Larps offer an untraditional way to have fun, new experiences and things to think about – you can become a 30s gangster or an arctic explorer. First and foremost, larps offer an experience which is much stronger than watching a movie or reading a book.

Prior to each game, you and other players will decide who is going to play which character. Then you’ll get two or three sheets of paper with the information on the character. Inside, you’ll find your role, your goals, and information about other characters. You can use this background to come up with further details about the personality of your character and make it special. You will get about an hour to read your role and consult it with the lector.

During the game (usually 150 minutes) you’ll have the chance to fulfill your game goals, play the role and feel what is it like in yomeone else’s shoes. Unlike in the cinema or theatre, you’ll experience it firsthand, not from a seat.

After the game is over, there will be a short talk about the game you just played, experiences, emotions and motivations of other characters in the story.

What do I have to do?

All you need is the willingness to step up, get in and enjoy the game – larps aren’t passive entertainment you can watch from a couch. Yo should read the character information and try to understand it. Although each player will come up with a different interpretation of the role, the base characteristics are provided and every player should try to portray the character as authentically as possible.

For most of the larps you won’t need a costume or props. If needed, we will provide these. The magic of the game is not in a perfect costume.

Turning up on time is about the most important thing you should do. We expect everyone to come on time, as all the players need to hear the information from the lector. By being late, you waste the time of other players. If there’s any special information on the page of the game, read it.

Chamber larps are not physically demanding, but the serious ones are often emotionaly taxing. Consider whether you are ready to attend two such games in a row. We strongly advise to choose one serious and one “lighter” game.

30+

Several of the runs of the games are marked 30+, which means they are primarily intended for players above 30 years. If you are considerably younger, please try

to apply for other run of the game first. Thank you.

Payments

After you register in the application system, you will receive a confirmation mail with information about the height of the payment. Send the amount to our account 2300038050/2010 as soon as possible, because the reservation is considered final only after the fee is paid. Reservations for games will be accepted in two rounds. At the end of each round, all the reservations that haven’t been paid for (i.e. are not final) will be canceled. This will make it possible for other participants to book the game.

This measure has been taken to minimize the amount of book-keeping and also to prevent last-minute cancellations. The game fee makes the reservation final and won’t be refunded if its canceled afterwards. Please, resereve only the games

you really intend to attend.

Accomodation

For those participants who don’t have an accomodation in Brno we’ll offer the cheap possibility of sleeping in a gym as usual.
